Broward County Public School classrooms, come celebrate Earth Week with Fort Lauderdale Historical Society, with a virtual field trip to visit the Paintings of Anna Darrow.
Dr. Darrow was Broward County's first female doctor in 1924, the second female physician ever to practice in the state of Florida. During this time, women had recently won the right to vote and there were very few medical schools that would accept women students. In addition to her work as a general practice medical doctor, Darrow also developed an incredible capacity for translating the beauty of the natural Florida landscape of the early 1900s into watercolor images.
She won several awards for her art, including best of show at the 1893 Chicago World's Fair, World's Columbian Exhibit. Come see these original works of art on display at the Fort Lauderdale Historical Society through April 30th.
NOTE: This virtual tour is only available to Broward County Public School 3-5 th grade classrooms, teachers and administrators. All others may tour the exhibit daily onsite at 1, 2 or 3 pm.
