Talking Stick Women’s Empowerment Circle
Center For Inner Wisdom
Purpose: To hold space for ourselves and other women when we sit in circle together.
We use the Talking Stick during our sharing circle. It is the heart of our gathering, the heart of sacred space. It is the heart of self-empowerment intention that we put forward for our meetings and gatherings. The Talking Stick represents opportunity for each woman to hold the space for herself and just speak your truth when we sit in a circle.
First we ground into the day, to the energies of whatever it is that are presenting on that particular evening; then we pass the stick through the sharing circle. When you get to hold the stick, it is your right to speak. You don't have to share during the circle – you can pretty much just hold the space maybe for a few moments for yourself to feel into the energy of the day or present moment for you and pass it along. If you decide to speak, the stick has a power of its own. Once it's in your hand and you prepare to speak, nothing but the truth comes out. It's very difficult not to be authentic in the space when you have other women just holding silent quiet space for you to express yourself so when you speak it doesn't matter about the words or whether they make sense, whether it's all jumbled together. It doesn't matter what comes out. What comes out in that moment is what's necessary for you to release or acknowledge or to be with. The important thing is to allow yourself the space to be with your thoughts, to be with your feelings and to be acknowledged.
Each person in the circle is asked to be fully present, so no cellphones or other devices that will take your attention away is allowed during the time of the gathering.
When a woman holds the Talking Stick, it is her right to speak and no other women in the circle can interrupt or speak over her or offer any kind of advice or guidance.
No one is to touch, hug, or in any way interrupt the process of the speaker holding the Talking Stick while they are releasing. As women, we feel that urge to hold, hug, and share our energy with others. This will probably be the hardest part of participating in the circle but please know that the person speaking is going through an energy clearing by expressing themselves. The release of the stagnant stuck energy needs to happen and when we touch them physically it interrupts the flow of that energy and actually anchors the energy back into the body. The energy has to flow until it reaches the heart chakra where it can be covered in unconditional love and then transmuted out to the universe. There will be time at the end to hug as that is how we end each circle.
Each participant will hold sacred space for all present, especially as each one speaks. What does this mean? Quiet your mind, focus on your breath and listen intently to what is being said and the energy of how they are saying it. Sit in silence while the speaker is speaking. You may want to get deeper in touch with what is coming up inside of you and see if you resonate with what is being said. Silently send healing loving energy to that person as they speak and when they are done.
Realize that there may be deep emotions while sharing. That is okay and perfectly normal in releasing. No one is going to judge or criticize as you go through your releasing process. If you are releasing and crying, more than likely it is something profound that you were holding on to and now it is brought to the surface and moving on. We rejoice with you in this process.
WHAT HAPPENS IN THE TALKING STICK CIRCLE STAYS IN THE TALKING STICK CIRCLE! Enough said.
What the circle is not for: It is not to be used in any manner other than getting in touch with what is inside of you that you wish to express in a safe, caring environment while others hold space. It is not to be used as a political forum or to share what you are selling, etc. We are all here for the same purpose – to grow and expand spiritually and to let the process happen of growing together energetically as we progress on our own journeys.
