The world famous Nerd Nite lecture series is now in the 305! Nerd Nite is a monthly event held in more than 75 cities across the globe during which several folks give fun-yet-informative presentations across all disciplines – while the audience drinks along.
It's like the Discovery Channel… with beer!
This month's speakers and topics:
1) So… How Exactly Did the Russians Hack the Election, Anyway?
by Eleazar Melendez
The 2016 U.S. presidential election, the Brexit vote in Britain and the 2017 French presidential elections all brought to the fore a new style of political guerrilla warfare, largely based on leveraging social media and the Internet. From using Big Data regression analysis, «fake news» aggregators and social media bots to emotionally manipulate voters, to driving media cycles based on stolen data and targeting voting machines, various political players used our interconnected, high-tech lives as a weapon in this cycle. What does this mean for the future of our democracy?
Eleazar is the political director of the Miami-Dade Democratic Party, where he works to help South Florida elected officials, candidates for office and progressive activists succeed. Hired after the Donald Trump's election, Eleazar has spent 2017 helping those folks resist the President's agenda, build a progressive movement, fight to defeat individual bad policies and win elections. Prior to working for the Party, Eleazar was a political aide, serving Miami city commissioner Ken Russell as chief of staff. In previous lives, he has been a journalist, management consultant and Wall Street analyst.

3) Reprogramming the Human Mind: An Experience of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)
by Jason Schneider
Imagine trying to program a computer to do what you want it to do without having ever learned to code. As human beings we have the most powerful ‘bio-computer’ sitting between our ears and and for the most part, no one has taught us how to reprogram it. This will be an experiential presentation where we will experiment with our minds, try out new ways of thinking, learn ways to re-code our experiences, and give ourselves more conscious control over our unconscious programming.
Jason Schneider is a Neuro-Semanticist and a Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming since 2010. He founded PerceptionAcademy.com to train people how to apply NLP in a way that is authentic, natural, and brings out the best in ourselves and in our communities.
Schedule for the night:
